When it comes to turbocharged cars, there is one massive mistake many enthusiasts make when upgrading their engine: purchasing too large of a turbocharger. Yes, an extra large turbocharger will leave you room to grow if you ever decide you need more power, but it introduces a host of other problems when compared to a stock sized turbo. The biggest problem is throttle response. The larger a turbocharger is, the higher its threshold is; this means its optimum RPM range ends up significantly higher in the RPM range. Essentially, a large turbocharger will not spool up very fast and won’t make low-end power very much. All of these things kill drivability, making your car awful on the street.

This hybrid turbocharger idea is exactly what Tomei is doing with their new MX-Series of turbochargers. If you want excellent drivability but also want more power than the stock turbocharger can offer, a hybrid turbocharger may be the perfect solution for you. With a CNC Billet Compressor wheel, Tomei MX-Series turbochargers offer a significant improvement over traditional cast compressor wheels.They are machined from aerospace grade materials, and are highly durable and lightweight. They are feature a thinner blade with a larger surafce area to maximize airflow and turbo spool. The multi rate billet actuator of the MX-Series turbos are large capacity and are made from reinforced forged billect contructions. They include 6 springs for fine boost adjustments and a swivel type nipple to allow for greater freedom when routing hoses.

After 22 years of the RB26 first debut. The impression left has lead many people are still enjoying tuning. At TOMEI, we wanted to see more users enjoy tuning their engines, so we continued development on new products. During the development process, with such diverse testing of housings, turbine wheels, and actuators was completed both on the engine bench Dyno and on actual use on a vehicle. The usual surging that is common with twin Turbos was suppressed. The right turbo design was made that will spool all the way up to high rpm as intended for the RB26 was completed. Up until now, when aiming for higher output power of more than 600ps, larger modifications were needed to the exhaust manifold for an additional waste gate, which also increased costs. But now, this turbo kit is compatible with the stock exhaust manifold, and it is a 100% true bolt-on application that can potentially deliver more than 650ps (MX8260). This is the largest size bolt-on turbo for this output characteristics at engine speeds. Reaches full boost at around 5000rpm at somewhat higher range, but from there achieves fierce acceleration with the output characteristics that almost makes you forget that it is a bolt-on turbo.
